Government and MDL Attorneys

Federal Government Attorneys

Government attorneys employed by the U.S. Department of Justice are exempt from the pro hac vice requirement (see 28 USC 515, 517). Submit an electronic filing request through your PACER account. For more info see Attorney Registration for Electronic Filing.

Federal government attorneys who are not employed by the Department of Justice are not exempt from the pro hac vice requirement and must follow the Pro Hac Vice Instructions. However, attorneys employed by any department or agency of the United States are not required to pay a pro hac vice registration fee.

MDL Attorneys

MDL attorneys are exempt from the pro hac vice requirement [see D. Kan  Civil  Administrative Procedures]. Submit an electronic filing request through your PACER account. For more info see Attorney Registration for Electronic Filing.

Attorneys in MDL Cases:  Each attorney in a case transferred under 28 U.S.C.  1407 shall be entitled to one System password, created through pacer.gov, which will allow the attorney to retrieve and file documents electronically and to receive notices of electronic filing unless otherwise ordered or instructed by the judge in the case.
