Experience:
My practice has been exclusively devoted to Alternative Dispute Resolution for the past 10 years. I began mediation in the form of settlement conferences as a United States Magistrate in the Western District of Missouri in 1976. I have been involved in ADR in one form or another throughout my career. Nowadays, my practice involves about 65% mediation and 35% arbitration with an occasional summary jury trial or case evaluation.

I have lectured on mediation and arbitration at numerous seminars and programs for the Missouri Bar Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Assocation, DRI, MATA,and the state and federal courts. I am certified by the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri and the state courts of Missouri. I have attended three advanced training courses by the American Arbitration Association and one three-day course offered by the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri.

Legal Experience
Experience:
From 1969 to 1972 I was a law clerk to United States District Judge Elmo B. Hunter. From 1972 through late 1976 I was a Law Professor at the Creighton University School of Law where I taught trial related subjects (Federal Civil Procedure, Evidence, Federal Jursidiction, Environmental Law, Litigation with the Federal Government, etc.). I was appointed as a United States Magistrate in the Western District of Missouri in late 1969. During my tenure as a United States Magistrate I presided over civil non-jury and jury trials and acted as a settlement judge throughout the divisions of Western District of Missouri. I also taught as an Adjunct Law Professor at the University of Missouri - Kansas City Law School. I also taught freguently at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. I left the bench in 1988 to join Polsinelli, White, Vardeman & Shalton where I did trial work in complex cases until 1993. During that period of time I was regularly contacted by trial lawyers to mediate cases in Kanas City and other areas of the country. I decided to devote my practice exclusively to mediation and arbitration in 1993, and with the exception of a few matters for selected clients, I have acted as a mediator and arbitrator ever since.

I attended the University of Missouri - Kansas City Law School, graduating in 1969 with a Juris Doctorate. I attended the University of Kansas, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.
